CCE Curriculum
OUR OBJECTIVE
To develop every student in SJC to become persons who will embrace the school values, be of strong character and are equipped to know and achieve their purpose in life.
OUR APPROACH
In preparation for our students to face the rapid and continuous changes in the world today, we aim to provide them with the means to manage their emotions and relationships with others, as well as to make responsible decisions. Our students need tenacity, courage and resilience to face the challenges ahead.
THE CCE CURRICULUM
With CCE 2021, we aim to develop in our students:
- Good Character
- Resilience and Social-Emotional Well-Being
- Active Citizenship
- Future Readiness
Guiding principles for CCE 2021 implementation:
- Student-centricity: Place students at the heart of CCE.
- Intentionality: Intentionally design and carry out CCE in and beyond the classroom, and do not leave learning to chance.
- Coherence: Students able to connect, transfer, and apply learning across different learning experiences.
(A) CCE Curriculum Content: is based on the three big ideas of Identity, Relationships and Choices. It comprises the learning of core values, social-emotional competencies, and citizenship dispositions, with a focus on developing a sense of purpose in our students. The themes are woven across the following content areas: National Education (NE), Sexuality Education (SEd), Mental Health (MH), Education and Career Guidance (ECG), Cyber Wellness (CW), and Family Education (FE).
(B) Enactment of CCE Curriculum: CCE is enacted intentionally through learning platforms such as CCE lessons, key Student Development Experiences (SDEs), school-based initiatives, other subjects, and opportunities for personal application.
Key SDEs comprise the following:
- Co-Curricular Activities (CCA);
- Cohort Learning Journeys (LJs);
- Education and Career Guidance (ECG) Experiences;
- National Education (NE) Commemorative Days;
- NRIC Presentation Ceremony;
- Outdoor Adventure Learning (OAL) Cohort Camps;
- Student Leadership Development (SLD) Programmes; and
- Values in Action (VIA).
(C) Caring and Enabling School Environment: A school environment that enables effective CCE is one with adult role-modelling, positive teacher-student relationships, peer support and relationships, student voice and ownership, and consistent and coherent messaging on CCE.
Reflective journaling is widely used in our CCE lessons. It has the added benefit of improving self-awareness and self-management while providing a foundation for social-awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making.
